Methanex – in partnership with the Taranaki Community

Methanex

Methanex New Zealand’s focus on health and safety extends well beyond its operations to its community partnerships.

The company has recently renewed its support as an Associate Partner with the Taranaki Rescue Helicopter Trust until 2020, marking 20 years of supporting helicopter rescue services in the region.

Brian Ropitini, Director of Manufacturing, says it’s with great pleasure Methanex continues the relationship, which is wholly supported by employees.

“We’ve been on board since 1997, and the company is proud to have a long-term partnership supporting a service critical to the safety and well-being of the whole Taranaki community, where reacting in minutes can make a big difference in saving lives,” he says.

“I really enjoyed taking part in the Helicopter Trust’s Open Day last year seeing the impact the Trust is making and hearing stories about rescues carried out. You also never know when you might benefit from it – last year the husband of one of our contractors was winched to safety after a hiking trip went wrong.”

Brian says the sponsorship is also a good fit with Methanex’s key priority of safety leadership, both within and beyond the workplace.

This was recently highlighted by the company being named winner of the Wellness at Work category at New Zealand’s Workplace Health and Safety Awards for its employee well-being programme. That includes health and nutrition consultations, fitness testing, first aid training as well as leading the way in providing cancer screening and fatigue management.

“Really, we’re all working towards the same goal of making our lives safer,” says Brian.
